We as a group or individually would not be allowed to be in possession of a real Butchers knife which will be used as our main prop as well as a slab of meat. As an alternative we used our spare time to go and visit a local fancy dress shop - HarleyQuinn. As we are in the season for halloween and everything is being spooked up, there were lots of horror based props we could potentially use.
This is a mask which we could possible purchase for our anatagonist, thats if we adapt our plans and plan to reveal his face. This prop would be extreamly effective as it would hide most of his face while showing some emotion and with practical setting and lights it could look very scary.
This shot is a rough shot of the angle and level that we are considering shooting with the butchers knife on set, in this setting its uneffective although the prop looks realistic enough without any lighting or adapting which could make it suite the ideal prop we was looking for.
We also spotted these chains which look very realistic to look at and would also help us set the scene of an old workshop. They were a potential idea to use in our poster ideas although we decided against buying them just yet as we wasnt 100% with our finalised idea.
We also looked at possible body parts, our first comment was on how unrealistic the hand itself id although the end looked slightly realistic on camera which we thought could maybe be used within the setting to imply things and let the audience's imaginations take over.
One of our shots is based around an insect, the location of our set is said to come with loads of little bugs and spiders for us to hopefully capture. However we was thinking of alternatives just in case, this would not be one of them. Firstly its way to big, secondly it would be difficult to make it move in the way that we wanted and lastly it wouldnt seem realistic at all and would bring a humour to the shot effectiving the whole teaser.
There were two different variations of knifes, the first a butchers knife which was very much like the one we have pictured and the second covered in blood and with a smaller blade. We as a group decided that with editing and lighting the first would look most effective.
There were also options of tools which we could purchase for our workshop settings. Things such as Saws:
There were also pliers which had a tooth hanging from a string, symbolising a certain type of tourture.
This is a close-up of the butchers knife which was our final purchase, although the handle is not as we would like it to be there are ways of working round it.
Our Intention was to use a butchers knife as our main weapon prop. This is because this prop is associated with "meat" which is another prop which is very significant throughout our teaser trailer. We would like to portray that the use of the butchers knife relates to the meat, however leaving room for imagination to imply other things.
However, we then thought about using a crowbar as our main weapon prop as we feel it would be more brutal and more effective on screen. The Crowbar symbolises violence and can foreshadow whats to come within the film.
The Slab of meat we are looking to use would look similary to a dogs toy chop of meat as an alternative
of storing and creating the best effect with a real piece of meat. The chop of meat may have to be painted and worked on so that the effect we are looking for will be as effective as possible.
